Founder of AOU

Dr. Hamidullah Afghan is a distinguished Afghan scholar and engineer, renowned for his dedication to advancing education and development in Afghanistan. He holds a PhD in Structural Engineering (Tragwerksplanung) from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU Eindhoven) in the Netherlands, where he also contributed to the innovative ReCreate project. As a DAAD scholar from 2015 to 2017, Dr. Afghan gained extensive international academic experience and expertise, which he now channels into his pioneering work with the Afghanistan Open University (AOU). Under his visionary leadership, AOU strives to provide accessible, high-quality education to Afghan youth, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to their country’s future. Dr. Hamidullah Afghan’s commitment to education, research, and community development makes him a leading figure in Afghanistan’s academic and social landscape.

Dr. Freba Olime

Dr. Freba Olime is a dedicated Afghan academic and education leader, passionately committed to advancing knowledge and empowering Afghan students. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree specializing in the biodegradation of organophosphate compounds, reflecting her strong background in environmental science and research. Currently serving as Head Teacher at TAFE NSW in Australia, Dr. Olime brings extensive international teaching and leadership experience to her role at AOU. As Co-Founder of Afghanistan Open University, she plays a vital role in shaping the institution’s mission to provide accessible, quality higher education to Afghan learners, fostering both academic excellence and practical skills development. Dr. Freba Olime’s work exemplifies the power of education as a tool for positive change, especially for women and youth in Afghanistan.

Mr. Naim Atarud

Mr. Naim Atarud

Co-Founder

Mr. Naim Atarud is an accomplished Afghan author, entrepreneur, and strategic thinker specializing in growth and innovation. With a strong academic background from the University of Salford, he brings valuable expertise in business development and creative leadership to the Afghanistan Open University. As a Co-Founder of AOU, Mr. Atarud plays a key role in driving the university’s vision forward by fostering innovative approaches to education and empowering Afghan youth through entrepreneurial thinking and practical skills. His passion for creating sustainable growth opportunities aligns with AOU’s mission to build a brighter future for Afghanistan. Mr. Atarud’s leadership and strategic insight continue to inspire and shape the evolving landscape of higher education in Afghanistan.

Nasiba Akram-Haidari

Nasiba Akram-Haidari (OAM)

Co-Founder

Has a background in Journalism, Education, Accounting, Community and Charity work. She has a BA in Journalism, a Diploma in Community Coordination.

Founder and Director of Yassna foundation, founder of Project Humanity, Chair of The Bruce Wong Foundation, member of the Soroptimist International of Hornsby, Chair of Health In A New Home research panel The University of Technology Sydney.

Worked for ACNielsen, Settlement Services International, HOST International, SBS Radio and TV.

Nasiba has been a devoted mother/grandmother, exemplary woman, community member, successful in her career. She works hard to make a difference to those that are most needy.

Nasiba originally from Afghanistan has firsthand experience living through disruption of war, loss, displacement and journey of settlement.

Since her settlement in Australia in 1979 she has tirelessly supported the Afghan diaspora from all ethnicities and backgrounds in Australia, Afghanistan, and globally. She has also been involved with Austcare’s demining project, managing community aid projects on volunteer basis. Writer of the poetry book “Sunset of loneliness”.

Attiqullah Qauomi is an experienced educator and one of the Co-Founders of Afghanistan Open University. With a strong background in teaching Kankor preparation and Amazon business courses, he has empowered countless Afghan students through both academic and vocational education. Known for his dedication to digital skills training and youth development, Mr. Qauomi plays a key role in expanding accessible, high-quality education for Afghans both inside the country and abroad.

Sadia Qayumi

Sadia Qayumi

Co-Founder & Academic Officer

Sadia Qayumi is a dedicated Afghan and currently serves as the Academic Officer and one of the Co-Founders of Afghanistan Open University (AOU). She is pursuing her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at Symbiosis International University. She is a proud Afghan whose heart is full of love for her country and a deep commitment to serving Afghanistan through education and meaningful initiatives. Her work at AOU reflects a strong belief in empowering Afghan youth through accessible and quality learning opportunities.

Soma Fahim

Soma Fahim

Co-Founder & Head of Medicine Dept.

Soma Fahim is a dedicated medical professional and Co-Founder of Afghanistan Open University. She graduated from Herat University with a background in medicine and currently serves as the Head of the Medicine Department at AOU. She is committed to education, community service, and women’s empowerment, actively contributing to both academic and volunteer initiatives. Soma combines her medical knowledge with a strong commitment to serving Afghan communities through accessible education and healthcare awareness.
